Gridwatch 2022

At this moment, fossil fuel is supplying over 80 percent of our electricity supply, with nuclear another 10 percent. The plan is to reduce that to zero in a dozen years.

Just before 4 p.m. this afternoon, wind and solar were providing less than 4 percent of the total electricity used in the Midcontinent region of North America. Coal and natural gas were providing more than 80 percent of the total.

The plan is to move to “zero carbon” on the electrical grid by 2035, if not sooner. There is no plan in place to get from today to 2035 while keeping the lights on.
