It’s here! New resource for charter school startups in ND

With the passage of new legislation allowing charter schools in North Dakota for the first time, American Experiment North Dakota launched an online platform to support charter school founders and other charter school innovators as they navigate this new option for public school students and families. CharterSchoolHub.org includes resources and guides to help expand the charter school movement in the state after North Dakota became the 47th state to offer this tuition-free option to K-12 students.

“We believe every North Dakota child is unique and deserves access to a high-quality education setting that meets their needs,” said Catrin Wigfall, education policy fellow at American Experiment North Dakota.

American Experiment North Dakota received a grant from the State Policy Network’s Ed-Prize to assist charter school development in the Peace Garden State.

The website has information for school innovators in three phases of charter school development:

  1. Those exploring the idea of founding a charter school will find information on the definition of a charter school, who is eligible to found a charter school and what resources are needed.
  2. Those in the process of founding a charter school will find information on legal requirements, key dates and helpful checklists.
  3. Those already operating a charter school will find information on policies and procedures, marketing and accountability.

“The charter school hub is full of resources and expertise from other states that already have charter schools, including Minnesota, the birthplace of the movement. We are excited to see how this movement takes off in North Dakota.”
