American Experiment ND in the news: John Phelan visits Minot

Our resident economist John Phelan spoke at an event in Minot last week. He discussed state and local tax and spending policy with two state representatives.

The Minot Daily News was there to report:

Think tank pitches reforms to income tax, local spending

The Daily News summarizes Phelan’s presentation:

Phelan identified regulatory policy and fiscal policy as two areas state government can influence state economic performance, and honed in specifically on taxing and spending.

He advocates eliminating the state’s income tax while capping the level of local government spending at the rate of inflation.

The two legislators joined Phelan for a Q&A session. The backdrop for the event last week is a referendum appearing on the statewide November ballot to abolish local property taxes in the state.
