North Dakota PSC approves natural gas rate increases

The North Dakota Public Service Commission (PSC) yesterday approved natural gas rate increases for Montana-Dakota Utilities customers and the Northern States Power Company. MDU customers will see an approved rate increase of 6% and Northern States Power residential customers will see an approved rate increase of 9%.

MDU made an initial rate increase request of 7.5% in November 2023. The PSC approved an interim rate increase of 6.5%. The North Dakota Monitor reports that a MDU residential customer, the average monthly bill increases will be about $3.55.

Northern States Power Company is part of Xcel Energy. It originally requested a 9.4% rate increase for its North Dakota customers and received an interim rate increase of 8.7%. The overall rate increase will be about 8.2%, through residential customers will see an increase of 9%.
