American Experiment ND launches Vote Nope on Dope campaign
American Experiment North Dakota launched a marketing and social media campaign today urging North Dakotans to oppose Ballot Measure 5 making recreational marijuana legal in the state. The Nope on Dope campaign consists of digital and Meta advertising directing voters to an informational landing page at www.nopeondope.com.
The site reminds North Dakotans that they have already defeated this measure twice, in 2018 and 2022. Opposition is rooted in the belief that recreational marijuana will harm our children, grow the black market, distract law enforcement, and not return revenue to the state treasury.
Policy Fellow David Zimmer, a 30-year veteran of law enforcement, wrote about the marijuana legalization ballot measure on the American Experiment webpage:
“It is poor policy for a state to sanction the use of marijuana. States that have legalized marijuana have often realized that use, abuse, and injuries increased after legalization. Promises of an economic boon and a reduction in black-market sales have been misleading at best, and the social costs of legalization are just not understood well enough yet.
North Dakotans have wisely exhibited a reluctance towards legalizing marijuana. They should remain resolute again in 2024, while they continue to observe the self-inflicted pain other states are enduring, after legalizing marijuana.”
The campaign will run throughout October until election day, November 5, 2024.
